" I loved my time at the University of Georgia. Moreso, I loved living in Athens. The social atmosphere was very fun and there was always something to do. The only time I felt unsafe on campus was walking to a dining hall late at night. Anything at night can make you think twice, but campus did have those blue lights spaced out where you could press a button to call 911. The facilities were excellent -- dining halls, gyms, dorms, buildings, everything was great. The teachers were hit or miss, but I had more good experiences than bad. I think college prices in general are unmanageable for students, this isn't a unique problem to UGA. I would have graduated with massive amounts of debt if it hadn't been for the HOPE scholarship and help from my parents, so I was very fortunate and recognize my privilege in that regard. But I would absolutely recommend this school to anyone. "

" I LOVE this university of wouldnt change a thing. As soon as I toured UGA, I knew it was where I should be. From athletics, to clubs, to academics, it has it all. The campus is beautiful and everybody is friendly. There’s enough clubs and organizations to make this big campus feel small. You’ll find your people here. "

" UGA is a good school, but the town of Athens is something to be desired. I am a Graduate student in linguistics department. I love the department and the professors. But since it is a relatively new department it does lack options when it comes to courses. "

" My program was really great. The professors were very supportive and there are lots of interesting classes, some that I wouldn't have been able to take at any other university. I find that Athens is a great town to live in -- not too expensive, and lots of buses for those of us who don't have cars. I can't comment much on the social scene, but there's a lot of bars and good restaurants all over town. Other programs might not be as supportive - I'd recommend checking specifics for your major or field, as I've heard less good things about some other. But I can't speak to those with certainty. The administration is a bit trickier. Upper-level administration isn't at all responsive to departmental or student concerns. They didn't handle COVID-19 very well at all, for example. The extremely large size of the school could also make it very hard to get around if you're doing a lot of classes in different colleges, but the free, abundant shuttles do help with that. All in all, if you want to study linguistics at a big state school, this is a good place to go, but be aware that the administration is not your friend. "
